Why We Exist

Ash & Creed Press began with a belief that stories can illuminate the questions we carry—the ones that shape us quietly, persistently, and often painfully. Not all of these questions arise in a sanctuary. Many emerge in living rooms, hospital corridors, classrooms, and late‑night conversations where people wrestle with identity, loss, hope, and responsibility. We founded Ash & Creed Press because we believe literature can help us face those questions with honesty and courage.

Our name reflects that vision. Ash acknowledges the parts of life that have burned down—the disappointments, the failures, the moments when certainty collapses. Creed points to the convictions we hold onto, even when they’re tested. We live in the tension between the two. We publish in the tension between the two. And we believe that tension is where transformation often begins.

We didn’t set out to create a niche imprint or a narrowly defined “religious” press. We set out to create a home for writers who explore what we call sacred questions—the questions that matter because they shape who we become. Some of those questions are explicitly theological. Others are deeply human. All of them deserve stories that treat them with depth, nuance, and compassion.

Our books reflect that range. The Heretic Hunters examines the forces that fracture communities and the courage required to seek truth in the midst of conflict. The Billy Chronicles follows a young man raised in Christian Science as he confronts the moral and emotional weight of an unwanted teenage pregnancy—a sacred question not because it is doctrinal, but because it demands integrity, empathy, and growth. These stories don’t offer easy answers. They offer space to wrestle, reflect, and imagine a way forward.

On the other hand, a devotional like The Questions of Jesus seeks to help people in their spiritual journey, to reflect on life as they move through Lent. It lets people think anew about their faith the role it plays in their lives.

Ash & Creed Press exists because we believe people are hungry for literature that honors complexity. Stories that don’t flinch from the hard places. Stories that help readers see themselves and others with greater clarity. Stories that remind us that sacred questions aren’t reserved for religious settings—they arise wherever human beings are trying to live with meaning, responsibility, and hope.

This is only the beginning. Our hope is that the books we publish will spark conversations across families, classrooms, book clubs, and communities of every kind. We believe that when writers speak with moral courage, readers respond with renewed imagination. And we believe that every life, no matter its setting, is shaped by questions worthy of a story.
